I don't fit my skin.
I think I was born
    a cat, maybe, a Martian,
    an explorer of deepest caves and highest mountains,
    a plant of most excellent fragrance,
    a Hindu.
Instead, I was graced with this skin,
    this body
    middle-aged and pale
    Western
    of no particular talent.
Moreover, Lutheran, originally,
    guilt and god and duty bound.

It took me a long time to realise
    this true Self
    unfettered by body.
